Explain your side. All of it.

No one interrupting, no one keeping score. 3rd Chair listens properly, tells you honestly what it sees — including the part you might not want to hear — and helps you say it better next time.

Free means free: 10 messages a day, for as long as you want.

We had the same fight about money again. I brought it up, he went quiet, and somehow I ended up apologising for asking.

3rd ChairMediator

You’ve told me what he did and what you did, but not what you were hoping he’d say when you brought it up.

That’s usually where the fight actually starts. What were you hoping for?

Adaptive support

Three ways to use 3rd Chair

Start wherever you are. Most people begin alone; many bring their partner in later.

Step 01 · SoloUntangle

Talk it through, privately.

A conversation that’s just yours. Think out loud about a recurring argument, a decision you’re weighing, or something you’re not ready to say to anyone else. 3rd Chair listens, asks good questions, spots the patterns behind the same fight — and helps you find your own words, anytime, without an appointment.

Step 02 · RehearseFree account · no card

Practice it before you say it.

Rehearse the hard conversation with the AI playing your partner, with hints as you go and honest feedback after. Get coaching on a message before you send it, help finding an apology that actually lands, and gentle check-ins that turn good intentions into a real next step.

Step 03 · TogetherJoint session

Bring your partner in.

When you’re both ready, invite your partner into a shared conversation. The AI sits in the third chair: it keeps things fair, slows the escalation, makes sure each of you is actually heard, and helps you leave with something concrete — not just another version of the same fight. It takes no one’s side, ever.

When the same room is too much

Some conversations need separate rooms.

When two people aren’t ready to talk face to face, a mediator goes between them. Each of you talks privately with the AI — and only the words you approve, word for word, are ever carried across.

Nothing crosses until you say so

The mediator drafts what it thinks is worth passing on. You read it, edit it, and approve it — or you don’t, and it never leaves your room.

Two rooms, one mediator

What you write in yours is never visible in theirs. No transcript is shared, no score is kept, and neither of you sees the other’s drafts.

Seeing a counsellor? Bring us along.

3rd Chair isn’t therapy — and it isn’t trying to be. It’s the companion for everything between sessions: the 11pm argument, the text you shouldn’t send, the pattern you only spot on week three. Then it helps you carry what happened into the room that matters.

Session Prep

One page, built from your fortnight: what came up, the patterns behind it, and the questions worth raising — ready to bring to your counsellor. You review and edit it before anything is exported.

Reviewed by you before export

Your reports, portable

Your conflict fingerprint, deep analyses and communication styles — exportable as clean PDFs your therapist can actually use, instead of “so, how was your week?”

Clean summary exports

Homework that happens

Your counsellor sets the work; our gentle check-ins make sure the intention survives the fortnight. Practice the hard conversation here before you have it for real.

Gentle accountability prompts

No therapist yet? Many people start here and step up when they’re ready — we’ll always tell you when something deserves a professional.

Transparency first

Honest answers to fair questions

Is this therapy?

No. 3rd Chair is not therapy, and it doesn’t diagnose, treat, or replace care from a licensed professional. It’s a different thing: a private, always-available space to think, practice, and talk — including with your partner. Many people use it alongside therapy; others use it because therapy isn’t accessible or doesn’t feel right for them yet.

If you’re in crisis, or there’s abuse in your relationship, please reach a professional or a crisis line. Ireland & UK: Samaritans 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258 in the UK. US: call or text 988. In immediate danger, call your local emergency number.

Is it actually private?

Privacy is the point of the product. Your conversations are yours. In couple mediation, each partner also has their own private space — nothing you say privately is shared with your partner, ever. We never sell your data, and you can export or permanently delete everything, anytime. Read our plain-English privacy policy →

Will it replace my therapist?

No — and we’d be suspicious of any app that says it will. Therapy is a relationship with a qualified human; 3rd Chair is what’s with you the other 167 hours of the week. It preps you for sessions, keeps the homework alive, and hands your counsellor a clearer picture of the fortnight than memory ever does. Many of our users have a therapist. Many don’t, yet. Both are fine here.

Why take guidance from an AI?

A fair question. An AI won’t replace human judgment — but it brings things a well-meaning friend can’t: total neutrality, no gossip, no side-taking, no judgment at 2am, and endless patience for the third retelling of the same argument. You don’t have to trust it blindly. It’s free to try on one real conversation — judge the result yourself.
